“In
2005, Joseph’s Hardware consisted of
four stores in the suburban market south
of Boston.As the business grew, we looked
to expand the operation again, and saw
our chance in a True Value store that
was going out of business in Hingham.
One
of the critical decisions to be made in
the new store, was what POS system we
should use to run it.Although we had been served very
well by our current CS2000 system, we
knew its lifespan was limited, and
hesitated to invest more into it.We had also looked at – or
previously owned – other systems,
including Activant and Rock Solid, but
both had issues either with the level of
their functionality, or their service
reputation.
As
it turned out, the new store already had
a Pacsoft system taking care of the
entire operation, from POS to full
inventory management.As we investigated the system, we
learned several things that were
important to us:
Pacsoft’s
program – called Optemizer
– was already doing a very good
job of managing the store
Optemizer
could be branched for multiple
stores
Optemizer
was already programmed for full
EDI with Do It Best
Pacsoft
had a number of satisfied Do It Best
members as users
Most
importantly, the staff at Pacsoft was
willing to work with me to establish a
plan for my evaluating their system –
including on-site training and
converting existing inventories –
while the other stores continued to run
on CS2000.
We
worked the Pacsoft system long and hard
for 9 months, and the bottom line is
that it performed very well – well
enough for us to decide it was an
excellent replacement for CS2000 in all
of our stores.In July, 2006, be began the
process to convert the entire Joseph’s
Hardware operation to Optemizer.
All
along the way, the Pacsoft staff has
showed a willingness to make changes quickly
whenever they made sense, and to support
us both over the phone and in the field.Their software and their ability
to react fast as a company made me feel
confident in the new software technology
I was investing in.

look closely at Pacsoft’s program –
it has the sophistication levels needed
by any serious retailer, and it’s
backed up by accessible people who are
concerned with how it performs for me,
and for Do It Best as a whole.”
